Late last year my eight-year-old son, Blake, told me he wanted to be fat just like me. I tried to explain to him that being fat is not good and that he should not be like me, because that is not healthy. However, I could not convince him that it was not good to be fat. He just kept saying he wanted to be like me.
Soon after that experience I went for a check up with my physician. He ordered blood tests on December 8, 2006. I did not expect the blood tests to show anything wrong even though I knew I was overweight. However, my blood tests showed my total cholesterol was 222, triglycerides 138, HDL 36, LDL 158. The doctor immediately gave me a prescription to lower my LDL. I asked if I could lower it with diet and exercise. He said to just take the medication and not worry about changing my diet or exercising.
I did not like his answer because I thought it was just treating the symptoms not the real problem. I did not want a diet. I wanted a lifestyle change. I wanted something healthy and permanent. I met with an IsaGenix representative. I was impressed that he lost 50 pounds and had kept it off for two years. I decided to give it a try.
